A Polish man in the US was sentenced to eight to ten years in prison last Tuesday after he was convicted of animal cruelty for torturing and abandoning a puppy in 2013.
37-year-old Radoslaw Czerkawski bought Kiya, a one-year-old mixed pit bull, on Craigslist from her previous owners in the summer of 2013. Kiya was later found abandoned and severely injured at a Massachusetts Park in August of the same year.
The puppy had multiple fractures on the skull, spine, and ribs, a dislocated shoulder, a stab wound to her right eye, and a split tongue.
She was rescued by officials and was named Puppy Doe. Sadly, due to her severe injuries, she had to be euthanized a month after she was found.
Czerkawski was already in prison after being handed a sentence in 2015 for stealing more than a hundred thousand dollars from an elderly woman who was in his care.
In the recent court decision, he was convicted of 12 counts of animal cruelty. He is also now banned from owning or coming into contact with any animals. It was later revealed that Czekawzki, is an illegal immigrant in the United States. He will be deported right after he completes his sentences.
