This four-year-old black retriever mix named Edgar was missing for a week and found in a drainage pipe.
Edgar’s owners Juli and Sean Ryan live in Cincinnati with him and their other dog Oscar.
Juli and Sean said that the two pals have been known to go off by themselves, but they would always come back at the end of the day. Both dogs disappeared one night, with only Oscar returning home the next day.
“In the morning I headed out to work and opened the garage door and there’s Oscar, but it’s just Oscar,” Sean said.
The family did everything to find Edgar — flyers, spreading the word, nightly searches, even calling animal control — but still nothing.
One day, Sean went for a walk around the neighborhood and heard something familiar. He poked his head into a drainage pipe and that’s when he saw poor Edgar, barking and crying for help.
Ryan immediately called 911 and firefighters came to rescue his pal.
“Somehow he managed to travel about 90 feet before another smaller pipe intersected the larger pipe and prevented him from going any farther,” Ryan wrote on his Facebook. “He had about another 20 feet to go.”
The Ryans brought Edgar to the vet to have him treated for some sores and infections.
So many things could have gone wrong. Luckily, it was nothing the vet or good ‘ol Edgar couldn’t handle.
Edgar may be shaken up, but he is alright, safe at home, and expected to make a full recovery.
