Donald Trump has caused controversy by not adhering to royal protocol.
The President, alongside First Lady Melania, is currently visiting Windsor in the UK, where they were welcomed by the Prince and Princess of Wales.
The group walked together after their arrival, with William and Trump in conversation at the center, while Trump held Melania’s hand.
As they neared the King, William reportedly introduced him to Trump, saying, “This is my father,” to which Charles responded with a small wave.
Trump and the King exchanged a handshake and engaged in lively conversation, with Trump also placing his hand on Charles’ arm during the handshake.
Following this, they were greeted by a guard of honor as the Trumps, along with the King and Queen, stood on a red-carpeted platform. The two leaders then conducted a military inspection.
The incident that caught attention was when Trump walked ahead of the King, engaging in conversation with one of the guards.
Royal protocol dictates that individuals should walk behind King Charles. Within the Royal Family, this is done according to rank and the line of succession.
Commenting on Trump’s breach of protocol, a Twitter user wrote alongside a photo of the President and King Charles: “Trump walking infront of the King. The man is a disgrace and has no respect for the King. Never did for the late Queen either…..”
“Trump is a narcissist, he doesn’t think anyone else can be more important than him,” another person vented in response.
Another tweet stated: “Donald Trump leading the British army and walking infront of the king says it all.”
“He’s gone and walked in front of the monarch again…,” shared another individual with a face-palm emoji.
Another user claimed: “Trump walking in front of King. This is an insult to our King.”
Further developments to come.
