Donald Trump faced significant backlash after posting a controversial rant on Truth Social, in which he used a derogatory term referring to Tim Walz.
The post began with a seemingly positive note, “a very Happy Thanksgiving salutation to all of our Great American Citizens and Patriots,” but quickly turned into a heated diatribe at 4:27 am.
Trump’s post criticized immigration, alleging that migrants receive “roughly $50,000 in yearly benefits.”
He also took aim at Mike Walz and Ilhan Omar, making an inappropriate comment about Omar’s hijab.
Further, he launched into a scathing critique of Somalia, Omar’s birthplace, labeling it as a “decadent, backward, and crime-ridden nation.”
In his remarks, Trump accused Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, who was Kamala Harris’ vice-presidential candidate in the 2024 election, of allowing Somali refugees to “take over.”

Trump stated: “Somalian gangs are roving the streets looking for ‘prey’ as our wonderful people stay locked in their apartments and houses hoping against hope that they will be left alone.”
In his post, Trump used a slur when referring to Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, calling him “seriously r*tarded,” and made an offensive remark about Omar, suggesting she is “always wrapped in her swaddling hijab.”
The post was met with widespread condemnation online, with many people expressing their disapproval after it circulated on social media platforms outside of Truth Social.
One person harshly commented: “Imagine how miserable you must be to spend Thanksgiving writing something like that.”

Another critic posted: “Imagine being so emotionally fragile that the only way you can talk about an elected governor is by using a slur most adults grew out of in middle school.”
Someone else remarked: “Good Lord. The second hand embarrassment is reaching unprecedented levels.”
Tim Walz responded by questioning Trump’s mental health, tweeting, “Release the MRI results.”
Separately, Walz shared his own Thanksgiving message on social media.
In his more composed Facebook post, the Minnesota governor wrote: “A very happy Thanksgiving from my family to yours!
“We’re wishing all Minnesotans quality time with family and friends, rest and relaxation, and a good Minnesota-grown turkey on the table.”
