President Donald Trump has expressed his thoughts after making an early departure from the most anticipated sporting event of the year.
Super Bowl LIX was an unforgettable experience for NFL enthusiasts, with the Philadelphia Eagles triumphing over the Kansas City Chiefs 40-22 in New Orleans.
Kendrick Lamar captivated audiences during the halftime show, which fueled numerous discussions about his ongoing rivalry with Drake.
Add to that the historic moment of Trump being the first sitting president to attend the Super Bowl.
However, the 47th President of the United States apparently found the event lacking, opting to leave the Caesars Superdome before it concluded.
He voiced his discontent on Truth Social, stating: “The worst part of the Super Bowl, by far, was watching the Kickoff where, as the ball is sailing through the air, the entire field is frozen, stiff. College Football does not do it, and won’t! Whose idea was it to ruin the Game?”
This season, the NFL’s Competition Committee introduced a new rule to tackle the lowest kickoff return rate in NFL history during the 2023 season and to address an unacceptable injury rate on kickoffs, as detailed on the official NFL website.
Once President Trump confirmed his attendance at the 2025 Super Bowl, the organizers were required to amplify security measures, which were already stringent due to a New Year’s Day incident in New Orleans that resulted in 14 fatalities.
Prior to the game, Trump released a statement saying: “I look forward to joining the fans in New Orleans for Super Bowl LIX to cheer on two great teams – the Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles – as they battle for the National Football League’s Vince Lombardi Trophy.
“The coaches, players, and team staff on the field tonight represent the best of the best in professional football, but they also embody the best of the American Dream.
“Their hard work, dedication, and tenacity is admirable, and their individual journeys are as inspiring as the drive and determination that has led them to this extraordinary moment.”
The president continued: “They also represent the hopes and dreams of our Nation’s young athletes as we restore safety and fairness in sports and equal opportunities among their teams.
“Football is America’s most popular sport – for good reason – it fosters a sense of national unity, bringing families, friends, and fans together and strengthening communities.
“This annual tradition transcends our differences and personifies our shared patriotic values of family, faith, and freedom heroically defended by our military service members, law enforcement officers, and first responders.
“We value their devotion to protecting our great Nation and salute their selfless service.”
