Donald Trump has hinted at the possibility of leaving his presidential role to pursue a full-time career as a host.
The 79-year-old Republican, currently in his second term at the White House, raised the idea on Tuesday, asking his followers if they would support such a decision.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump asked if he should step down from the presidency to focus on hosting full-time. This came after he was invited to host the upcoming Trump Kennedy Honours, which will be broadcast at 8pm EST and will celebrate stars like Sylvester Stallone, Michael Crawford, KISS, George Strait, and Gloria Gaynor.
He posted: “THE TRUMP KENNEDY CENTER HONORS will be broadcast tonight, on CBS, and Stream on Paramount+. Tune in at 8 P.M. EST!”
“ At the request of the Board, and just about everybody else in America, I am hosting the event. Tell me what you think of my “Master of Ceremony” abilities.
“ If really good, would you like me to leave the Presidency in order to make “hosting” a full time job?”

It’s uncertain whether the President is genuinely contemplating leaving office for a celebrity career or just engaging with his fanbase. This isn’t the first time Trump has been in the spotlight, as 2025 marks a decade since his departure from hosting The Apprentice.
The entrepreneurial show, which aired from 2004 to 2015 with Trump leading, was credited with elevating his public profile ahead of the 2016 election. His time on the show transitioned him from a businessman to a well-known figure.
“In the show, he appeared to demonstrate impeccable business instincts and unparalleled wealth, even though his businesses had barely survived multiple bankruptcies and faced yet another when he was cast,” an article from Slate noted at the time.
During his first presidential campaign, Trump parted ways with The Apprentice following controversial remarks about Mexican immigrants that conflicted with NBC’s stance.

Trump’s hosting of Tuesday night’s honors has sparked debate, particularly since the event takes place at the newly renamed Trump Kennedy Center, a change opposed by some members of the Kennedy family.
Originally named the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, the Washington, D.C. venue is a tribute to the former president assassinated in 1963.
The center’s board unanimously voted on December 18 to rename it to include Donald Trump’s name, making it officially the Trump-Kennedy Center.
Some of JFK’s relatives have expressed their disapproval of the name change.
Joe Kennedy III, JFK’s grandnephew, stated: “The Kennedy Center is a living memorial to a fallen president and named for President Kennedy by federal law. It can no sooner be renamed than can someone rename the Lincoln Memorial, no matter what anyone says.”
