Donald Trump offers unexpected comments on Vice President JD Vance’s political future

Donald Trump recently shared his thoughts on the possibility of Vice President JD Vance succeeding him in the presidential elections of 2028.

When Trump was elected President in 2016, Mike Pence was his running mate, and the two remained a team through the 2020 campaign.

After losing to Joe Biden and the fallout from the January 6 Capitol riots, Trump and Pence parted ways. Trump then chose Vance as his running mate for the 2024 elections.

Upon defeating Kamala Harris, Vance, previously serving as Ohio’s senator, assumed the role of vice president.

With Trump unable to run for president in 2028, many speculate that Vance could be the Republican candidate.

However, Trump seems to disagree with this speculation.

In a pre-Super Bowl interview with Fox News on February 9, Trump was questioned about his vice president.

“Do you view Vice President JD Vance as your successor, the Republican nominee in 2028?” Bret Baier inquired.

Trump’s answer was unexpected: “No, but he’s very capable. I mean, I don’t think that it, you know, I think you have a lot of very capable people. So far, I think he’s doing a fantastic job. It’s too early, we’re just starting.”

Despite their current alliance, Trump hasn’t always been supportive of Vance.

In fact, Vance once openly criticized Trump.

The vice president had stated: “I’m a ‘never Trump’ guy. I never liked him. My god what an idiot. I find him reprehensible.”

Vance’s skepticism persisted until late 2020, as revealed by text messages obtained by the Washington Post.

However, Vance has since changed his stance and is now on his first international trip as Trump’s vice president.

He is participating in an AI summit in Paris and attending the Munich Security Conference, where he plans to meet French President Emmanuel Macron.

Discussing the trip, Vance told Breitbart last week: “At the AI Summit, the main reason I’m going is actually to have some private conversations with the world leaders who are also going to be there. I think there’s a lot that some of the leaders who are present at the AI summit could do to, frankly, bring the Russia-Ukraine conflict to a close, help us diplomatically there.”
