Donald Trump’s approval rating has fallen to a fresh low, with the share of voters who say they strongly disapprove now exceeding the share who approve of the job he is doing.
New numbers from Big Data Poll show the president underwater across every topic the firm tested. The monthly survey tracks the gap between respondents who say they strongly approve and those who say they strongly disapprove of the administration’s performance.
In the May poll, 57.4 percent of registered voters said they disapprove of Trump’s job performance overall, including 46.2 percent who said they strongly disapprove.
Big Data Poll said the findings mark a “new low for the president during his second term, and the first time he has dipped into the critical 30s”.
The firm’s director, Rich Baris, has previously been supportive of the Trump administration, but has become more openly critical in the aftermath of the conflict with Iran.

He wrote in the report: “After a year of voters making themselves clear while granting an unheard-of amount of political grace, Republicans have dug themselves into a massive hole by not heeding their warnings.”
Overall approval for Trump in May came in at 39.4 percent, down from 44.8 percent in January.
On the economy and jobs, 38.5 percent said they approved of his performance, while 56.9 percent said they disapproved.
Views on the cost of living were even more negative, with 29 percent approving and 66.5 percent disapproving.
The poll also asked about Trump’s handling of the war in Iran. It found 58.3 percent disapproved, compared with 33.7 percent who approved.
Separately, 53.4 percent of those surveyed said they specifically opposed US military strikes in Iran.

Baris added: “Voters have run out of patience with the administration and the majority party.”
Even with the broader slump, respondents still gave Republicans a slight edge over Democrats on immigration and border security. In the poll, 42 percent said they trusted Republicans more on the issue, compared with 39.1 percent who chose Democrats.
White House spokesperson Davis Ingle told Newsweek: “The ultimate poll was November 5, 2024, when nearly 80 million Americans overwhelmingly elected President Trump to deliver on his popular and commonsense agenda.
“No other president in history has accomplished more for the American people than President Trump, who is working tirelessly to create jobs, cool inflation, increase housing affordability, and more.”
The spokesperson also said the administration has “already made historic progress” and described the current efforts as “just the beginning” of the agenda.
