Donald Trump’s approval rating sinks to record low in new polls after America turns 250

Donald Trump’s job approval has fallen to its weakest point since beginning his second stint in the White House, according to newly released polling about a year and a half into the term.

That stands in contrast to a recent claim from the president, who said his numbers were better than ever in a Truth Social post dated June 29.

“Highest Poll Numbers Ever. Even Higher than Election Day, November 5th.

“This despite the fact that, IRAN WILL NOT HAVE A NUCLEAR WEAPON!”

Fresh survey data suggests otherwise, with two separate polls indicating his approval rating has dropped to a new low.

One of them, an Economist/YouGov poll carried out from July 3 to July 6, surveyed 1,603 adults in the US and found a steep gap between approval and disapproval.

In that poll, 35 percent said they approve of the way Trump is handling the presidency, while 61 percent said they disapprove.

That result matches a broader pattern seen in other recent national surveys. An AP-NORC poll conducted in June found 37 percent approved of how Trump is handling his job, while a CBS News poll from mid-June put his approval at 36 percent. The overall picture has remained stubbornly negative even after a brief rebound in some trackers earlier in the summer.

That result leaves him with a net approval rating of minus 26, equaling the lowest mark previously logged in May 2026.

A separate Focaldata poll, published on July 6, pointed in much the same direction.

That survey put Trump on minus 23, an unfavorable number at a moment when attention is already turning toward the upcoming midterm elections.

Recent polling also suggests the president is facing especially weak numbers on the issues driving public concern. In late May and early June, Economist/YouGov surveys found record or near-record disapproval of Trump’s handling of inflation, the economy and Iran, and AP-NORC likewise reported that approval of his handling of the economy remained low.

The White House pushed back on the findings, with spokesman Davis Ingle defending the president’s record in comments to Newsweek.

“No other president in history has accomplished more for the American people than President Trump, who is working tirelessly to create jobs, cool inflation, increase housing affordability, and more.”

Ingle also argued that Trump has delivered “historic progress” and said more is still to come as the administration’s plans continue to unfold.

Trump, for his part, has repeatedly attacked unfavorable polling and has accused some surveys of being deliberately misleading.

In a January post on Truth Social, he lashed out at what he described as dishonest polling practices.

“Fake and Fraudulent Polling should be, virtually, a criminal offense.

“As an example, all of the Anti Trump Media that covered me during the 2020 Election showed Polls that were knowingly wrong. They knew what they were doing, trying to influence the Election, but I won in a Landslide, including winning the Popular Vote, all 7 of the 7 Swing States, the Electoral College was a route, and 2,750 Counties to 525.”

He added that, in his view, some pollsters did accurately predict the result, but said those are ignored by much of the media.

“Isn’t it sad what has happened to American Journalism, but I am going to do everything possible to keep this Polling SCAM from moving forward.”
