According to a source, one of Donald Trump’s key advisors has allegedly threatened to alter the border with Canada.
On February 1, Donald Trump approved an order that introduced ‘catastrophic’ tariffs on China, Mexico, and Canada.
The 47th President of the United States has since reinforced his proposal to implement 25 percent tariffs on Canada, suggesting that the only way for Canada to evade such tariffs would be to become a ‘Cherished 51st state’.
Trump’s tariffs are part of his strategy to ‘take bold action to hold Mexico, Canada, and China accountable to their promises of halting illegal immigration and stopping poisonous fentanyl and other drugs from flowing into our country’.
“There is growing production of fentanyl in Canada and enough fentanyl was seized at the northern border last fiscal year to kill 9.8 million Americans,” states the executive order.
The executive order enforces 25 percent tariffs on goods imported from Canada and Mexico and a 10 percent tariff on China.
While an American couple chose to cover the cost of meals for all patrons at a Canadian eatery due to their disapproval of Trump’s actions, Peter Navarro, the senior counselor for trade and manufacturing for the 47th President, seems uninterested in mending relations.
A source informed The Telegraph that a top advisor to the president is now advocating for ‘revising’ the US-Canada border, calling the suggestion ‘just crazy and dangerous’.
Identified as being ‘close to the negotiations,’ the source stated that Canada is now holding off on ‘negotiating’ with the US Government until the senate confirms two incoming members of Trump’s cabinet – Jameson Greer and Howard Lutnick.
The source added: “Peter Navarro is in post, and he is taking advantage of being there by himself with no one else in post to challenge his extreme positions.
“This will change as soon as the many other trade and economic positions are filled.”
However, Navarro has criticized another unnamed source who previously claimed the US was considering removing Canada from the Five Eyes intelligence sharing network.
Navarro dismissed the claims as ‘crazy,’ stating that the US ‘would never jeopardize [its] national security […] will allies like Canada,’ and further commented: “My view is that we should never have to comment on any story where it’s based on unnamed sources.”
