A WWII veteran has been hailed as a hero after fighting off a would-be burglar from his home in Kingswinford, West Midlands, UK, last week.

Tom Bull, aged 88, gave the burglar a “good old wallop” with his walking stick after the thief threw him to the ground and demanded cash.
Mr Bull had been asleep when the burglar broke into his bungalow at around midnight.
The partially-sighted great-great grandfather, who served with the Welsh Guards during WWII, said: “I whacked him really hard. I think he was as surprised as I was. He said ‘don’t hit me’ — then I walloped him. I should like to meet him properly. He’s the lowest of the low.”
Mr Bull, who suffers from angina, was left with cuts and bruises following the incident. But he told The Metro he would do it again if it happened: “They say an Englishman’s home is his castle and I was not going to let this man into mine without a fight.”
Officers are still searching for the burglar, according to Detective Constable Richard Hall of West Midlands Police. He said: “Nothing was stolen during the break-in, but we need to catch the offender to prevent this happening to anyone else.”
