Ethnic ambiguity is a modern day superpower. With such a vague look, one could pass off as a number of ethnicities. It’s basically social camouflage. Those who have the look though, know that it has its downsides. Here are a few:

#1. Without knowing who you are, people speak to you in a language they think you speak.
And you don’t know whether to feel bad because you’re a disgrace to your culture or offended because it isn’t your culture.
#2. People like to assume they know what you are and where you’re from.
And their guesses are usually far off from what you actually are.
#3. And when they’re mistaken, they question you.
“Are you sure?” Well, actually, yes I am.
#4. They think your name isn’t your name.
“Wait, what’s your real name? Aren’t you, like… Asian?”
#5. It pisses you off that so many people are so ignorant.
Yes, you can get white people from Africa.
#6. You’re used to being asked “what are you?”
“I’m human?”
#7. You’re also used to people generalising your culture.
But it still pisses you off each time.
#8. For lack of a better term, people just out-right call you “exotic.”
“Don’t wanna be your exotic.”
