A DoorDash driver has gained significant attention online after disclosing his earnings from a challenging 12-hour workday.
Recently, Spencer Joyce shared a video on Instagram detailing his decision to accept every DoorDash order offered to him over a 12-hour timeframe.
Spencer, who operates around Virginia Beach, commenced his shift at 8 am and concluded just after 9 pm, as detailed in the widely-viewed video.
During these 12 hours, he maintained ‘active’ duty for nearly 10 hours while taking a few brief breaks throughout the day. Over this duration, he covered an impressive 221 miles.
“My earnings before accounting for taxes, vehicle wear-and-tear, fuel, insurance, etc., were $215,” Spencer stated.
He further explained, “My largest tip was $14.25 from a Food Lion grocery delivery, while my smallest was a $3 tip from a Starbucks order.”
He ended the clip by saying, “I’m exhausted, and my car urgently needs a tune-up.”
Viewers quickly reacted to Spencer’s revelation, offering their opinions on his earnings.
“Damn man, you could make more working pretty much anywhere,” one person remarked.
Another commented, “That’s a horrible pay for 12 hours.”
One viewer noted, “I thought you were going to say between $400-$500.”
Another individual wrote, “Gotta respect the hustle but door dashing isn’t to get rich. It’s to get by.”
In a subsequent video, Spencer clarified that the extended shift was part of an experiment for his YouTube channel. He is one half of the duo behind the reaction channel ‘Embrace The Suck 21’.
He shared on Instagram, “I should qualify the context of this: I usually don’t accept orders less than $6 or that give less than $1/mile and I’m multi-apping with Instacart as well.”
He explained, “I’ve done DoorDash on and off since 2019 just for extra cash, but I fell on hard times after just getting my Commercial Driver’s License & having to wait a little bit to start work, which is when I had to move into my car to live and doing DoorDash and Instacart was my lifeline.”
Spencer concluded by saying, “The video I did was simply a challenge for a YouTube video and I did not expect it to blow up like it did! Luckily I’ve secured a job as a trucker that I begin on August 11th.”
