Drew Barrymore shares reasons she can go ‘years’ without being intimate

Drew Barrymore is well-known for her open and honest demeanor, particularly when she discussed a personal aspect of her sex life.

This candid moment came after Andrew Garfield revealed he had abstained from sex for six months in preparation for his role as a Jesuit priest in the 2016 movie, Silence.

Set in the 17th century, Garfield delved deeply into his character by adopting a severe lifestyle, embracing new spiritual practices, and remaining celibate for six months to genuinely capture the essence of his role.

However, Barrymore responded to this admission with a light-hearted comment, saying that six months ‘wasn’t that long.’

While discussing Garfield’s comments on an episode of The Drew Barrymore Show in 2022, she questioned co-host Ross Matthews: “What’s wrong with me that six months doesn’t seem like a very long time? I was like, ‘Yeah so?’”

Matthews humorously remarked that he had ‘abstained’ from sex throughout his ‘entire twenties.’ He then playfully pointed out the main takeaway, joking: “We buried the lede there, that’s the headline. Drew can go six months, no big deal.”

The host further upped the ante by adding: “Oh, years.”

As of 2026, the Charlie’s Angels actress is not publicly linked to a romantic partner. She has not been involved in a long-term relationship since her 2016 divorce from Will Kopelman, with whom she has two children. Barrymore has openly discussed her careful approach to dating and the freedom she enjoys from being single.

Recently, the 50-year-old host of the Drew Barrymore Show expressed feeling ‘grossed out’ by the notion of dating a man in his 20s, even though large age gaps are often seen in Hollywood relationships.

Barrymore mentioned experiencing a ‘bad run’ in her love life, emphasizing that she has no desire to date a younger man.

In a segment on her talk show, Ross remarked: “Can everybody remember that dating is supposed to be fun? You know, like, go out and just have fun.”

Barrymore replied with humor: “Can you tell the men I go on dates with that? Because they have lost the memo. I love to, like, date from Psychos.com. I’m not kidding. I’ve had a bad run.”

Sunny Anderson then inquired if Barrymore had ‘tried [dating], like, the 20-somethings?’

Drew quickly dismissed the suggestion. “You know what? No. I’m totally grossed out by that. No, I have children and it seems wrong now.”
