Driver involved in Anthony Joshua-related crash that resulted in two fatalities officially charged with reckless driving

The driver involved in the unfortunate accident with Anthony Joshua in Nigeria has been officially charged.

Officials have stated that Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode, aged 46, appeared in Sagamu Magistrate Court on Friday, facing charges related to the event that resulted in injuries to the heavyweight boxer and the deaths of two of his team members.

According to police information provided to the BBC, Kayode is facing charges that include causing death by dangerous driving.

The former heavyweight champion was part of a devastating road accident on Monday, December 29, while traveling on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in Nigeria.

Joshua, who is 36 years old, was seated in the back of the car when it crashed into a parked truck, leading to the deaths of two team members at the scene.

Police spokesperson Oluseyi Babaseyi informed AFP: “The defendant was granted bail in the sum of five million naira ($3,480) with two sureties. He was remanded pending when he meets his bail condition.”
