Dwayne Johnson has reportedly shared a portion of his substantial wealth with the crew of the film Red One.
Celebrity Net Worth estimates that the former wrestler, now a Hollywood actor, has a net worth of approximately $800 million, placing him among the wealthiest stars in the film industry.
However, as revealed by Chris Evans, who stars alongside Johnson in Red One, Johnson is known for his generosity.
During the filming of the much-anticipated Christmas movie, the crew participated in a morale-boosting activity known as ‘splashing the pot’.
Typically, at the end of the week, crew members would contribute a small amount, like five or ten dollars, into a pot and receive raffle tickets. The winner, determined by a raffle, would take home the entire pot, which could sometimes reach a few thousand dollars—until Johnson decided to contribute.
Evans told PEOPLE: “DJ would splash the pot in ways that no other actor can keep up with, because as actors we’re like, ‘I’ll splash the pot. I’ll put in a chunk of change here. I’m not in the running for it,’ but just a way to say thank you to the crew each week.”
According to Evans, Johnson would increase the pot to amounts as high as $40,000, benefiting several people on various occasions.
“The crew is just so excited to work for DJ, and he works just as hard back for them,” Evans continued.
Praising the crew’s hard work, Johnson himself commented: “Well, I love that. Our crew is the backbone of our business, so you want to take care of them.”
Despite Johnson’s generosity, critics were not kind to their latest film. Currently, it holds a mere 33 percent on Rotten Tomatoes’ Tomatometer.
In contrast, it has received an 88 percent Audience Score, indicating it has been well-received by the public since its release on November 6 in the UK.
One reviewer lauded the film with five stars on the site, stating: “Great holiday movie. Funny and lots of action.”
Another reviewer described it as having an “innovative storyline addressing a Christmas treasure.”
Yet another commented: “Loved this family-friendly, action packed Christmas film! My teenage kiddos did, too.”
Someone else remarked that it was ‘the best movie I’ve seen in a while’.
Red One is currently playing in theaters across the globe.
