Eddie Murphy and Mel B’s child has recently announced his transition to male, with both parents expressing their love and support for him.
The actor, known for his role in Daddy Daycare, and the former Spice Girls member, Mel B (whose real name is Melanie Brown), were briefly romantically involved in 2006, resulting in the birth of their child, Angel, the following year.
Mel B, who has just turned 50, also has two other daughters: Madison, aged 13, and Phoenix, who is 26.
Murphy, on the other hand, has ten children. His oldest, Eric, aged 35, recently married Jasmin, the daughter of Martin Lawrence, in a private ceremony.
Angel celebrated his 18th birthday in April, and it has been noted that he has updated his Instagram pronouns to ‘him’. Reports suggest that both Mel B and Murphy are supportive of Angel’s choice to identify as a transgender man.
An anonymous source revealed to the Mail Online that Angel made the decision on his own, and both Mel and Eddie understand and respect it. There was no special event to announce it, as Angel simply wished for his preferred pronouns to be recognized.
This development follows a heartfelt Instagram post Mel B shared in April to celebrate Angel’s 18th birthday.
In her message, the America’s Got Talent judge expressed: “HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO MY ANGEL !!! I cannot believe youre 18 You are so special and so bright and so talented!! I couldnt be prouder of watching you grow and become the person you are but youll forever be my babyyyy I hop you keep chasing yor dreams and be kind to everyone around you like you always have been my Angel [sic].”
Mel B concluded her post with ‘love you always’ accompanied by numerous heart emojis.
Angel is not the only offspring of notable figures to have come out as transgender recently, as Robert De Niro’s daughter Airyn has also shared her story.
In an interview with Them magazine, the 29-year-old discussed her transition, stating that being trans ‘felt right’ and adding: “I feel like I’m meant to be doing this.”
Her comments followed a media outlet’s publication of photos showing her having lunch with her famous father, where she was misgendered and called a ‘nepo baby’.
Reacting to this, Airyn remarked: “Not only did they get information wrong about me… They just sort of reminded me that people really don’t know anything about me.”
De Niro has openly supported Airyn’s choice to live as a woman and responded to the news by saying: “I love and support Airyn as my daughter. I don’t know what the big deal is. I love all my children.”
