Elders Aged 70-100 Share Common Response to Their Biggest Life Regret

A video showcasing a variety of individuals has underscored a common theme regarding life regrets.

Though you might believe your opinions are fixed in your youth, perspectives often shift as you age. What you value in your 20s might not hold the same weight as you approach your 50s.

Recognizing this, TikTok user Yair spoke with older individuals to gain insights into the wisdom they wish they’d possessed in their youth.

These impactful interviews were shared in a Twitter thread, revealing a recurring insight.

One 79-year-old woman reflected on the priorities she held in her youth, acknowledging that while money ‘makes it easier’, it doesn’t ‘guarantee joy’.

Another participant echoed this sentiment, noting that ‘material goods’ and excessive wealth are not truly significant.

He elaborated: “As a younger person I think we tend to want to make a lot of money and acquire a lot of material things, have a big house, great car, all those things and, I realized that’s not what life is about. https://www.tiktok.com/@username/video/7324707559753960735

“Life is about your relationships, love and being able to know what abundance really is and what enough means.”

A couple, along with a 78-year-old man, concurred that ‘material things’ hold little importance.

“We live on a boat and we sold pretty much everything. We thought we would miss it, regret it, whatever – no, [we] don’t,” the woman in the couple shared with Yair.

Her partner added: “We spent our youth trying to get bigger and bigger houses and nicer cars and all this kind of stuff, and a lot of that stuff now is meaningless.”

When questioned on what holds meaning, the couple cited ‘relationships, health [and] friends’.

The 78-year-old man advised his younger self to avoid the pursuit of material wealth and competitiveness in a superficial, hollow world.

“It’s useless and it’s very negative. And then [I’d tell him] to look for relationships,” he stated.

A 93-year-old man lamented the loss of friends and his wife, expressing a sense of loneliness in his experiences.

“I go places, do things and then I haven’t got anybody to tell about it,” he remarked.

Viewers have commended these individuals for sharing their wisdom, with one X user highlighting the value of ‘listening [to] elders’ advice [is] always powerful’.
