Ellen DeGeneres Longs for TV Comeback Four Years After Toxic Workplace Scandal

Ellen DeGeneres says she misses being on television.

The comedian, 68, made the admission during an appearance on “The Graham Norton Show” Friday. “I’ve nothing really going on and I really miss being on TV,” she said host.

DeGeneres, who relocated to the United Kingdom two years ago with her wife Portia de Rossi, 53, expanded on what she longs for from her former career. “I miss a lot about it — laughing with the writers and the audience,” she said. “I think about doing stuff here. I think it is pretty easy to get on TV here.”

She cheekily pointed to the breadth of British programming as evidence. “You have a pottery show, you have a sewing show, and you even have a show about people watching TV shows,” she said, naming “The Great Pottery Throwdown,” “The Great British Sewing Bee” and “Gogglebox.”

The couple’s move across the Atlantic came after President Donald Trump won re-election to a second term. They settled in the Cotswolds, a picturesque rural region in south-central England.

DeGeneres has previously gushed about her new home. “Everything here is just better — the way animals are treated, people are polite. I just love it here,” she said in August 2025. She added, “It’s absolutely beautiful. We’re just not used to seeing this kind of beauty. The villages and the towns and the architecture — everything you see is charming and it’s just a simpler way of life.”

Despite her contentment with English country living, DeGeneres has maintained only a limited public presence. She was recently spotted at the Three Horseshoes pub near Burford, Oxfordshire, chatting with Meghan Markle, the “Suits” alum and Duchess of Sussex, who has also made Britain her home. De Rossi was photographed alongside them.

The former host’s expressed openness to British television work marks a notable shift from the circumstances that ended her American career. Ten former employees of “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” had accused her of fostering a workplace environment of “racism, fear, and intimidation,” allegations that emerged publicly in 2020 while the program was still in production.

DeGeneres addressed those claims directly on camera at the time. “I learned that things happened here that never should’ve happened,” she said during an episode of her show. “I take that very seriously, and I want to say I’m so sorry to the people who were affected.”

She continued, “We have had a lot of conversations over the last few weeks about the show, our workplace and what we want for the future. We have made the necessary changes and today we are starting a new chapter.”

The syndicated daytime program concluded in 2022 after 19 seasons, with the workplace controversy widely cited as a factor in its demise. DeGeneres has since kept a low professional profile, making her Friday remarks to Graham Norton among her most direct public comments about a potential return to hosting.

The “Ellen” alum did not specify any concrete plans or negotiations during her appearance.
