Ellen DeGeneres is reportedly making a move from the US to the UK.
DeGeneres, along with her wife, actress Portia de Rossi, known for her roles in Arrested Development and Better Off Ted, have traditionally resided in Montecito, California. However, it appears they are now opting for the English countryside instead of California’s sunny weather.
The couple has reportedly settled in the Cotswolds, a region also home to celebrities such as David and Victoria Beckham, Hugh Grant, and Kate Moss.
The reason for DeGeneres and de Rossi’s relocation, despite being married for 16 years, is allegedly linked to the outcome of recent elections.
There are reports that their lavish Montecito home will soon be put on the market following their departure.
An unnamed source informed The Wrap that DeGeneres and de Rossi have no plans to return to the United States.
Although some speculate the move was triggered by Trump’s election win, TMZ reports that DeGeneres and de Rossi had already acquired their UK residence in the Cotswolds prior to the election.
Nonetheless, they felt the urge to ‘leave’ America following Trump’s victory.
It should come as no surprise that DeGeneres did not cast her vote for Donald Trump.
During the summer, she endorsed Kamala Harris, expressing on Instagram, “There’s nothing more powerful than a woman whose time has come!! I can’t wait for @KamalaHarris to be our next president.”
UNILAD has sought comments from DeGeneres’ representatives regarding the news of her relocation.
DeGeneres and de Rossi are not the only ones opting to leave the US. Actress Eva Longoria, known for Desperate Housewives, has also moved abroad.
She referred to the US as ‘dystopian’.
Although there were suggestions that Longoria’s move was due to Trump, she clarified that she has been residing in Europe for the past three years.
Speaking on The View: Behind the Table podcast, Longoria stated: “Will you please let them know I didn’t move out of the United States because of Trump?”
She further explained: “I’ve been in Europe for almost three years.”
Longoria mentioned that her work necessitated the move, aligning with her role in the Apple TV+ series Land of Women, which premiered in July.
The series is filmed in Spain and tells the story of a woman who escapes New York with her mother and daughter, relocating to Europe.
