Elon Musk reveals his carnivore-style diet and favourite dish of all time

Whether it’s his headline-grabbing decisions, long social media rants, or unconventional baby names, Elon Musk has never been known for doing things the usual way — and his eating habits seem to follow the same pattern.

During an appearance on the Katie Miller podcast, the Tesla boss said he tends to stick to a carnivore-leaning diet built largely around meat and eggs.

He explained that his mornings often begin with a breakfast that’s far removed from the typical American routine: steak and eggs, paired with a black coffee.

Because that breakfast is so filling, he said lunchtime often doesn’t happen — or is reduced to something minimal.

“I usually don’t have lunch, or if I do, it’s something very small.”

When it comes to dinner, Musk said the meal changes depending on whether he’s eating socially or on his own, adding that he enjoys plenty of different styles of food.

“And then for dinner, depending on whether it’s social or not, it will vary in cuisine,” he told the interview host. “I like a wide range of cuisine.”

But when pressed on what he likes most, he pointed to a classic fast-food staple: the cheeseburger.

“American is my favorite,” he said.

“If I had to say like there’s one have for the rest of time, which would be quite monotonous, but it would probably be a cheeseburger.

“Because cheeseburgers are amazing. It’s genius, it’s a genius invention,” he gushed.

The carnivore diet itself remains widely debated. It typically involves eating meat, poultry, fish and seafood, eggs, select dairy products, and drinking water, while cutting out fruits, vegetables, and most carbohydrates — leaving meals heavily centered on protein.

Because it drastically reduces carbs, it’s often grouped alongside keto-style approaches, which aim to limit glucose intake. With less sugar available for energy, the body starts breaking down fat and generating ketones instead.

Those ketones enter the bloodstream and shift the body’s usual chemical balance, resulting in the metabolic state known as ketosis.

Musk has also spoken before about enjoying richer foods, even while acknowledging they can affect how he feels day to day. On the Joe Rogan podcast, he said heavy meals can slow him down, which is why he tries to keep daytime eating relatively light to stay sharp through packed schedules.

In that same conversation about personal food preferences, he also mentioned he has recently developed a taste for Hawaiian pizza — another option that tends to split opinions.
