Elon Musk has fired back at Taylor Swift’s endorsement of Kamala Harris with a tweet many have criticized as ‘creepy’ and ‘weird’.
Swift expressed strong support for Harris following the first televised debate between Harris and Donald Trump since Harris became the official Democratic nominee.
The debate was a success for Harris, marking a significant turnaround for the Democrats after Joe Biden’s poor performance, which eventually caused him to drop out of the presidential race.
Harris often corrected and fact-checked Trump’s claims, who referred to her as a ‘Marxist’ and made false statements about abortion.
After Harris’ debate performance, Swift shared her endorsement of Harris with her 283 million Instagram followers.
In her post, Swift highlighted AI-generated images falsely showing her endorsing Trump, affirmed her support for Harris and Tim Walz, and encouraged people to register to vote.
Swift’s endorsement caught the eye of Twitter/X CEO Elon Musk, who made an offer to Swift that many described as ‘weird’ and ‘creepy’.
Musk tweeted: “Fine Taylor … you win … I will give you a child and guard your cats with my life.”
To clarify, that’s Musk offering to father a child for Swift so she can become a mother.
It is possible that ‘guarding the cats’ is a reference to Trump’s false claims that immigrants are eating cats and dogs.
Many on Twitter reacted similarly to Musk’s comment, expressing their disapproval.
One user wrote: “this sh*t is creepy man”.
Others echoed the vice presidential nominee Tim Walz’s comments calling MAGA supporters ‘weird’, which led to a strong reaction from them.
One user commented: “You are creepy and weird,” while another tweeted: “this is so weird man”.
A third user added: “Am i the only one that finds this extremely weird?”
Swift explained her reasons for supporting Harris, writing: “I will be casting my vote for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz in the 2024 Presidential Election. I’m voting for @kamalaharris because she fights for the rights and causes I believe need a warrior to champion them.”
She continued: “I think she is a steady-handed, gifted leader and I believe we can accomplish so much more in this country if we are led by calm and not chaos.”
Swift was also impressed by Harris’ choice of running mate, writing: “I was so heartened and impressed by her selection of running mate @timwalz, who has been standing up for LGBTQ+ rights, IVF, and a woman’s right to her own body for decades.”
The musician concluded: “Your research is all yours to do, and the choice is yours to make”, before urging people to register to vote.
