The Paris prosecutor’s cyber-crime unit has conducted a raid at the French offices of X amidst an ongoing investigation into various alleged offenses.
The company, owned by Elon Musk, is under scrutiny for suspected illegal data extraction and ‘complicity in the possession of child pornography,’ according to the BBC.
French authorities have issued a statement saying: “At this stage, the conduct of the investigation is based on a constructive approach, with the aim of ultimately ensuring that the X platform complies with French law, as it operates on the national territory.”
The investigation began in January 2025 when French officials started examining X’s algorithm.
The scope of the investigation expanded in June of the previous year after investigators reviewed the content promoted by X’s AI chatbot, Grok.
