Elton John Discusses Vision Loss in Emotional Golden Globes Speech

Elton John may be facing challenges with his eyesight, but his wit remains as sharp as ever.

The legendary musician, who is now 77 years old, recently provided an update on his health following an eye infection that resulted in the loss of vision in one of his eyes.

During the opening night of The Devil Wears Prada: The Musical last month, John remarked: “I haven’t been able to come to many of the previews because, as you know, I have lost my eyesight. So, it’s hard for me to see it.”

Despite the bleak outlook, John brought humor to the situation at the Golden Globes on January 5.

While presenting the award for Best Original Score alongside Brandi Carlile, he quipped: “There’s been a lot of stories going around about my regressive eyesight, I just want to reassure everyone: It’s not as bad as it seems.”

The 77-year-old continued with a joke, saying: “I’m so pleased to be here with my co-host, Rihanna.”

The audience laughed heartily as Carlile announced Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross from Challengers as the winners.

Other recipients this evening include Zoe Saldaña, winning for best supporting actress, and Kieran Culkin, who took home the award for best supporting actor.
