Emma Stone recently offered a glimpse into her private world, revealing how she navigates the challenges of fame.
Stone has been entertaining audiences since her breakthrough role in the 2007 comedy “Superbad.” Her career has flourished with notable performances in films such as “Zombieland,” “Poor Things,” “La La Land,” “Cruella,” “Birdman,” and the “Spider-Man” series.
Despite her ongoing presence in Hollywood, the 36-year-old actress maintains a certain level of privacy regarding her personal life. Stone, born Emily, married Dave McCary in 2020, and they have a daughter together.
At home, Stone’s demeanor is understandably different from her public persona or her professional environment.
When asked about managing fame and avoiding becoming “an alien,” a reference to her new film “Bugonia,” Stone described it as a “tricky” question to tackle.
In a Variety interview, Stone explained, “I think everyone sort of deals with that now. We all can relate to that feeling of someone thinking they know you; feeling like you don’t have much control of the avatar outside of me. Because there’s me, and then there’s me, here.”
She further elaborated, “There’s the person who comes here and then there’s the person who I am with my friends and family. They’re the same person, but it’s what I do to keep myself sane.”
In essence, Stone acknowledges that while she can’t govern the public’s perception of her, she can manage how she interacts with her close ones and how they see her.
Her remarks follow a previous discussion about her real name, Emily, which is known to her friends, family, and some colleagues.
During a conversation with Nathan Fielder, her co-star on “The Curse,” he mentioned, “Before we continue, I’d like to say something. Her name’s Emily, but she goes by Emma professionally.”
Fielder added, “So when there’s people that don’t know her, I end up saying Emma. But I’m going to just say Emily from here on.”
Stone confirmed that as she becomes more familiar with her colleagues, they often start calling her Emily instead of Emma.
She also admitted it would be “so nice” if strangers addressed her by her real name, Emily.
