Ben Ellis is a Latin teacher at Christ Presbyterian Academy in Nashville who has been stuck at home battling cancer.
Missing their teacher, the entire student body along with some of the high school faculty gathered outside his home in Tennessee to sing songs of worship.
English teacher Leslie Ponder, said the act was “spur of the moment”, with some students in the middle of class and tests “dropping everything for a bigger lesson on life, love, community and compassion,” to be bused over to Ellis’ home.
The high school students gathered on the front lawn, while Ellis looked out from an open window, and sang “Holy Spirit”.
The students said they wanted to give back “some of the love [Ellis] has given to them”.
“It was a powerful and moving outpouring of love that our students were able to bestow upon a man who loves us well,” said Shannon Lee Seibert, parent of a student at the school.
“We returned to campus and went straight into chapel, where we prayed and praised God. It was broken and beautiful.”
The beautiful moment was perfectly captured and shared on Facebook and has gone viral, garnering 16 million views.
