A month after Charlie Kirk was tragically shot dead during a debate at Utah Valley University, his widow has shared a poignant note and his last wish. The incident occurred on September 10, with 22-year-old Tyler Robinson being charged with several offenses, including aggravated murder and obstruction of justice.
In the aftermath, Kirk’s widow took to Instagram to share a personal note he had penned. She mentioned that her late husband, the founder of Turning Points USA (TPUSA), had a tradition of writing her a love letter every Saturday during their Sabbath.
The note, written in Kirk’s handwriting, revealed a softer side to the man known for his intense public persona. Despite his busy schedule filled with debates and political events, Kirk made time to express his affection for his wife through these letters.
In her Instagram post, Erika wrote: “He never missed one. I share this with you… not to make anyone feel like they need to do the same for their spouse, but to encourage you. To show that when your husband loves you as Christ loved the church you have a deeper respect for him, a deeper love.”
The last letter left by Kirk, who was known for his devout faith, reflected his appreciation for his wife and his organization. Kirk wrote: “Oh Jesus is so inspiring and uplifting. I am so thrilled to be on this journey with you. I am humbled by God’s grace and passion for TPUSA, and also for our lives.”
He continued: “As you like to say ‘This is not normal!’ Boy is that right! I am so touched by your support of my mission and my dreams. I pray God saves America and that we can play a small role in this in some way. I know things can get very hard with kids at home but you do an amazing job balancing it. I am so in love with you and want to serve you in any way I can. I love you!”
Following Kirk’s death, Erika was appointed as the new leader of Turning Points USA. Despite receiving criticism for her visible mourning at Kirk’s memorial service, Erika addressed the public by saying: “There is no linear blueprint for grief.” She emphasized this sentiment when sharing the love note, stating: “I share this with you not to prove a point.
“So I share this in hopes that today, husbands are encouraged to be even better husbands and wives are encouraged to be even better wives. I’d give anything to have a Saturday breakfast with my husband asking how we can better serve one another for the week ahead…so if you’re reading this, and you have that blessing, please take advantage of it for me.”
