Euphoria creator slammed for ‘disgusting’ Sydney Sweeney scene involving NSFW act

Euphoria creator Sam Levinson is once again coming under fire, this time over developments in the show’s most recent episode.

Season three has been rolling out week by week, and each new instalment seems to spark fresh debate among viewers.

Reaction began even before the series returned, after a trailer showed Sydney Sweeney’s character appearing in a baby outfit while filming adult content for OnlyFans.

Since then, criticism has continued. Some viewers previously called one scene featuring Chloe Ferry’s character Faye “gross,” pointing to a Nazi flag visible in the background during an explicit moment.

Now the latest episode has triggered another wave of backlash.

Once again centred on Sweeney’s character Cassie, the plot sees her relaunch her OnlyFans efforts and set her sights on influencer Brandon Fontaine, hoping he can help restore her online buzz.

With Maddy alongside her, Cassie heads to a party at Brandon’s house wearing a leopard-print catsuit. Maddy encourages Cassie to tease Brandon “with p***y,” while warning her not to actually go through with anything.

But the situation escalates quickly: Cassie ends up doing cocaine with Brandon, then unzips her bodysuit so he can take a line off her body. The scene continues as he smears some of the drug around her crotch.

Online, viewers have been reacting strongly to the graphic moment and asking why this season has leaned so heavily into explicit content.

“Between Kitty getting f**ked and Cassie snorting the coke off of the girl tummy uhm Sam Levinson once again disgusting,” one critic said on social media.

“Cassie rubbing coke on her meow meow this #euphoria sh*t gets weird I’m OUT,” said a second.

Away from the controversy, Zendaya has suggested the current run of the HBO series may be its final chapter.

Drew Barrymore asked the actor whether season three would be the last, and The Drama star replied: “I think so, yeah.”

Barrymore followed up: “I never want to ask questions like that, because it’s not my business, and yet, is this to be enjoyed knowing [it will end]?”

“Yes, I think so,” Zendaya reaffirmed.

Zendaya is also heading into a packed 2026. She’s already appeared in Euphoria and A24’s The Drama, and she’s set to appear in major releases including Dune: Part Three, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, and Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey.

With so much on the slate, the 29-year-old has said she intends to “disappear for a little while” once her latest projects have been released.
