Euphoria season 3 accused of ‘going too far’ after Sydney Sweeney full-frontal nude scene

Warning: This article includes spoilers for Euphoria season three episode two

Some Euphoria viewers think the newest episode of the HBO drama may have pushed things too far, after Sydney Sweeney took part in a polarising nude sequence.

Season three’s opener already left audiences stunned with a string of bizarre moments, with many saying the show had reached peak chaos.

But with only one episode aired, it was always likely to escalate — and Sunday’s instalment did exactly that.

The second episode, titled ‘American Dream’, continues Cassie’s storyline, including her OnlyFans plot as portrayed by Sweeney.

Throughout the episode, Cassie creates more explicit content. One shot shows ice cream dripping down the actor’s bare chest.

Another moment features Cassie wearing only a translucent American flag draped around her, while a baseball-themed set-up shows her in nothing but a thong.

In that segment, Cassie is shown wearing a backwards baseball cap along with trainers, a glove and shin pads, while positioning her arms to cover her body.

And in what many viewers considered the most extreme scene, Cassie appears in a baby costume, complete with a dummy, as she poses with her legs raised and spread.

Rue, voiced by Zendaya, narrates: “It’s a shame she was with Nate. Cassie was exactly the kind of girl you’d dream of signing. Beautiful, but directionless. So desperate for attention, she’s willing to humiliate herself.”

After the episode aired, fans took to social media to share their reactions to the storyline and its imagery.

One person penned on X: “Honestly, Euphoria has always pushed boundaries, but it does feel like this season is going a bit too far for shock value. I get that it’s trying to portray dark and uncomfortable themes, but there’s a fine line between storytelling and unnecessary degradation.”

“I’m glad everyone in Euphoria also thinks Cassie dressing as an adult baby is f**king weird,” a second added.

Another viewer simply labelled the scenes “shocking”.

Some fans noted they were still reeling from Cassie’s earlier ‘puppy play’ subplot, which previously prompted creator Sam Levinson to address the creative choice.

He told The Hollywood Reporter: “[Cassie] has got her dog house and her little dog ears and the nose, and that has its own humor, but what makes the scene is the fact that her housekeeper is the one filming it.

“What we wanted to always find is the other layer of absurdity that we’re able to tie into it so that we’re not too inside of her fantasy or illusion — the gag is to jump out, to break the wall.”
