Ex-NFL Star Jay Cutler Commences Prison Term Following Plea Agreement

Ex-NFL quarterback Jay Cutler has commenced a jail sentence as part of an agreement with prosecutors.

Cutler, who played in the NFL for 12 years, is serving a short jail term following a plea bargain related to his charges.

After admitting guilt to a misdemeanour DUI charge, Cutler was taken to Williamson County Jail in Franklin, Tennessee, on Monday (September 29) to serve his four-day sentence.

The 42-year-old, who played for the Broncos, Bears, and Dolphins, received this brief jail term as a result of an agreement that led to the dismissal of a weapons charge.

The situation originated from a car accident last October when Cutler rear-ended another vehicle.

Police officers who arrived at the scene suspected Cutler was under the influence of alcohol.

Reports indicated that his eyes were bloodshot and he was slurring his speech on October 17.

Cutler refused a field sobriety test but later submitted a blood sample at a nearby hospital. He allegedly admitted to having ‘a little bit’ of alcohol when questioned.

Authorities discovered two firearms in his vehicle, one of which was loaded.

He initially faced multiple charges, including DUI, reckless driving, violating implied consent laws, and possessing a firearm while intoxicated.

In court, Cutler accepted a plea deal, resulting in a four-day jail sentence.

The court also required Cutler to undergo a DUI safety course and suspended his driver’s license for one year.

He must pay a $350 fine and will serve an additional year of unsupervised probation. Other charges were dismissed through the plea agreement.

Cutler’s legal issues follow his contentious divorce from Kristin Cavallari.

The couple, parents to Camden, 13, Jaxon, 11, and Saylor, nine, officially parted ways in April 2020 after seven years together.

Since then, they have exchanged barbs on social media, frequently about financial matters and Cutler’s reported $128 million net worth.

Cavallari claimed she received no financial settlement from Cutler post-divorce, a statement he contested as ‘reckless.’

“I think it’s borderline slander to insinuate that there was zero dollars split during the marriage that each side got,” he stated on the ‘Take It Outside’ podcast.

“It’s insanity and it’s completely false, completely untrue. I hate that I even have to address it, honestly.”

“I’ve got a divorce decree,” he added, “I’ve got something that’s signed by the judge — it’s, like, 67 pages [and] it says the number breakdown.”
