Megan Thee Stallion’s fans have expressed concern that she may face consequences after she seemingly violated a key rule of the prestigious Met Gala.
The rapper appeared to be enjoying herself immensely at the Met Gala, held on May 5, but inadvertently broke a notable rule of this high-profile fashion event. The gala is a much-anticipated occasion for many celebrities each year, and Megan decided to share her experience with her followers through a video.
She posted a behind-the-scenes glimpse on her Instagram, showcasing her enjoying hors d’oeuvres with WNBA player Angel Reese and rapper Doechii.
The trio engaged in a toast with their finger food selections before tasting them and sharing their opinions. Among their picks were ‘cornbread and caviar,’ ‘white truffle lobster roll,’ and ‘vegan lox.’
In her video, Megan also encounters other celebrities, complimenting their exquisite outfits, including singer Ciara and actress Lupita Nyong’o.
Additionally, the rapper confessed to sneaking her phone into the reception.

However, this act was a breach of the event’s protocol, as many of her fans pointed out on her Instagram post.
Anna Wintour, the Vogue Editor-in-Chief and a longstanding chair or co-chair of the Met Gala since 1995, has been known to discourage attendees from divulging details about the event or using their phones and social media during it.
Wintour introduced this policy in 2015 with the intention of maintaining the mystery surrounding the Met Gala.
“The use of phones for photography and social media will not be permitted inside the gala,” a notice from Wintour explicitly states.
It remains uncertain whether any repercussions will be faced by Megan Thee Stallion.
Those under 18 are also barred from attending the event.
This age restriction was implemented in 2018, coinciding with the theme ‘Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination.’
A Met Gala spokesperson later clarified that the restriction was set because the event is deemed inappropriate for individuals under 18.
Smoking is another activity prohibited at the event, likely not surprising to a 2025 audience.
This rule was enforced after Bella Hadid, Dakota Johnson, and Marc Jacobs were seen smoking in the bathrooms during the 2017 gala. Attendees were subsequently reminded that smoking in the museum is illegal.
It’s worth noting that indoor smoking in New York City has been banned since 2003, a fact reiterated on past invitations to the Met Gala.
Certain foods are also banned from the event to avoid potential mishaps on the red carpet.
The New York Post reports that items like parsley are avoided to prevent them from getting stuck in teeth before photos.
Onions and garlic are also omitted to avoid bad breath, as well as dishes that are prone to spills on dresses.
If you find yourself seated next to someone you’d rather not be, there’s nothing you can do about it, as seat movements are not permitted.
Seating arrangements are strictly curated with considerable ‘power-brokering’ involved in the pre-event planning.
“A lot of thought goes into who sits next to who, if they sat together last year, if they’ve sat next to each other at other events, so much goes into it, it’s shocking,” shared Sylvana Ward Durrett, director of special projects at Vogue, in the 2016 documentary The First Monday in May.
