A decade has gone by since the untimely death of actor Philip Seymour Hoffman, and his son is now stepping into the limelight.
Cooper Hoffman, who was just 10 when his father, an Oscar winner, passed away due to drug addiction, is captivating fans with his striking resemblance to his father in the film “Saturday Night,” a movie centered around the making of Saturday Night Live.
Philip Seymour Hoffman is remembered for his remarkable performances in films like “Boogie Nights” and “The Big Lebowski,” both iconic 90s movies, along with his acclaimed portrayal of Truman Capote in the 2005 film “Capote.”
He won an Academy Award for “Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role” for his depiction of the famed writer, who traveled to Kansas with his partner to investigate a murder case for a new book and developed a relationship with one of the convicted killers.
Throughout his distinguished career, Hoffman earned three other Oscar nominations as an actor, and in 2010, he directed the drama romance “Jack Goes Boating.”
Despite his success onstage, Hoffman admitted to TMZ that he had sought treatment for drug abuse after using heroin and prescription drugs.
In February 2014, just a month before Cooper’s 11th birthday, Hoffman was found dead in the bathroom of his New York City apartment due to a drug overdose.
A decade later, Cooper is making his mark on the big screen in the United States with his portrayal of former TV producer Dick Ebersol in “Saturday Night,” which premiered last month.
Fans took to Twitter to comment on Cooper’s performance and the resemblance to his father. One user remarked, “Wow it is uncanny.”
Another tweeted a video of Cooper, saying, “In Saturday Night, Cooper Hoffman does something that reminded me so much of his dad that I got choked up.”
A third person commented, “I don’t wanna see that movie at all but my god the kid has got it.”
Another fan added, “Oh man, please tell me we’re going to get another Hoffman era. We need to protect him.”
The film explores the creation of the now-beloved Saturday Night Live and the tensions between producer Lorne Michaels and the young writers and comedians.
“Saturday Night” currently holds a respectable 72% score on Rotten Tomatoes and an impressive 84% on the Popcornmeter.
