Kanye West, the renowned rapper, recently gave an unusual interview that has sparked concern among his fans due to his somber response.
Having legally changed his name to Ye in 2021, West participated in a spontaneous interview with the Mystery Fashionist blog while visiting Tokyo. He was there for a 10-day pop-up event featuring the latest designs from celebrated designer Gosha Rubchinskiy.
During the interview, AJay Porter asked West about his identity and origins. The rapper responded in a detached manner: “I’m Ye im from Chi…”, while his gaze remained fixed on the ground.
Gosha Rubchinskiy had previously collaborated with Ye’s fashion brand, taking the role of head designer in 2023 after Adidas ended its collaboration with Yeezy. This followed Ye’s controversial social media outburst where he threatened to go ‘death con 3 on JEWISH PEOPLE’.
Earlier this year, the Russian designer parted ways with Ye’s company on good terms, which was underscored by Ye’s unexpected visit to Tokyo. However, Ye’s demeanor during the event left many fans uneasy due to his subsequent responses.
Porter then asked the musician and former husband of Kim Kardashian about his attire for the fashion event and requested him to rate it from one to ten.
Displaying his usual confidence but maintaining a quiet tone, Ye remarked, “It’s always a 10/10, i got the original Yeezy 950 boots on,” as he pointed to his footwear.
Reflecting on his ensemble, which included a blue denim shirt, jeans, and a black bomber jacket, he added, “Gosha did the pop up today so the rest of it’s all Gosha.”
Given the challenging period Ye has faced, involving personal and public upheavals, he was then posed a seemingly benign question that took a darker turn with his response.
Fashion blogger Porter inquired about a fashion trend Ye regretted partaking in, to which Ye replied with a single, alarming word.
“Life,” he answered.
This reply prompted many of the video’s viewers to express their worries, with one commenting: “Ye tired man.”
Another viewer added: “He looks so sad.”
Ye, who is 45 years old, has made few public appearances in recent months, his latest being a surprise performance in Tokyo alongside Travis Scott.
Some of Mystery Fashionist’s followers found his answer revealing, with one stating: “I almost thought this ain’t Ye until he answered ‘Life’.”
Others saw his response as a candid reflection, with another comment noting: “He ain’t lying lol. It’s rough out here!!”
