Fans of Alicia Silverstone seek health update after she shares video eating ‘poisonous’ fruit

Fans of Alicia Silverstone are worried about her well-being after the actress apparently consumed a toxic plant.

Currently in the UK, Silverstone took to TikTok to share a video of a peculiar discovery she made while walking the streets, seemingly in London.

In the video, posted on August 19, she told her followers: “I’ve just discovered something and I can’t figure out what it is and I need your help.”

The 47-year-old actress continued: “I’ve just bit into it because it was on the street and we were discussing whether it was a tomato or not.”

However, Silverstone clarified that it was ‘definitely not’ a tomato based on the plant’s leaves, which she showed in the video.

Taking another bite of the tomato-like fruit, Silverstone expressed doubts about whether she should be eating it, describing its taste as similar to a pepper.

Despite being posted only a few hours ago, Silverstone’s video has already garnered over 630,000 views at the time of writing.

The comment section is overflowing with guesses as to what the plant might be, with many suggesting it’s a Jerusalem cherry, also known as Solanum pseudocapsicum.

These plants, which are part of the nightshade family, are relatively common in the UK. Despite their fruit-bearing appearance, they are not meant for consumption.

“The Jerusalem Cherry is a member of the nightshade family, a large and diverse family of plants which includes both poisonous species and food plants such as potatoes, aubergines and tomatoes,” explains The Joy Of Plants website.

“The shrub is native to Central America where the plant is so vigorous that it’s sometimes viewed as a weed.”

Regarding its toxicity, the website notes that the berries are poisonous and advises to “only use a Jerusalem Cherry as a decorative plant, and keep it out of the reach of small children and pets.”

Given this information, fans have expressed concerns about Silverstone’s health and have urged her to update them on her condition.

One person commented: “WOMAN! UPDATE US. ARE YOU ALIVE AND WELL!?!”

Another added: “OMG NO!! Jerusalem Cherry very poisonous in the Nightshade family. Hope you are ok.”

Someone else emphasized: “Is Alicia ok??? We need an update!”
