With the release of Saw X, Tobin Bell has opened up about his somber experience while filming the original Saw nearly twenty years ago.
In a video posted to the franchise’s official X account, viewers are taken on a tour of the bathroom ‘where it all began’ by Tobin Bell, who played the infamous Jigsaw killer.
This bathroom was the primary location for much of the first Saw film, released in 2004. The plot revolves around Jigsaw’s latest captives, who find themselves trapped in a filthy bathroom, with one being tasked to kill the other to save his family.
In the recent video, Bell shares his memories of filming the original movie.
For those who may not recall, Bell spends the majority of the film lying on the floor in a pool of blood.
He recalled: “For most of that film, I lay right here on my face, with only a 357. Magnum in one hand, and a tape recorder in the other, and half of my head blown off.”
However, spoiler alert: the climax of the film reveals that he was alive the entire time and was the mastermind behind the two men’s captivity.
Bell further discusses the challenges of wearing his character’s gruesome makeup, sharing a poignant story from the set.
“No one wanted to have lunch with me, on any day I would sit down, I was so ugly looking and covered with blood, so I would eat alone in my dressing room,” he revealed.
This surprisingly heartwarming anecdote emerges from the production of one of the most violent film series ever, showing that Bell, in contrast to his character, comes across as genuinely kind.
Fans have since flooded X with emotional reactions to his story.
One fan commented: “Just remembered no one wanted to eat lunch with Tobin during the first movie and started crying.”
“MY F**KING HEART JUST GOT RIPPED OUT WDYM,” added another.
Another remarked: “This information has single handedly ruined my day this man deserves the WORLD.”
The newest installment in the Saw series is now playing in theaters worldwide.
Set between the first and second movies, Saw X follows a desperate John (Jigsaw) as he travels to Mexico, hoping an experimental treatment will cure his cancer, only to learn that the procedure is fraudulent.
The notorious killer resumes his deadly work, punishing the con artists with a series of intricate and grisly traps.
