Fans say Doja Cat should be banned from Met Gala after she arrives wearing wet T-Shirt

Doja Cat definitely knows how to keep us talking! Her 2024 Met Gala ensemble has sparked a torrent of opinions, with some fans even suggesting she should be ‘banned’ from future galas.

After last year’s homage to Karl Lagerfield’s beloved cat, Choupette, all eyes were on what Doja Cat would unveil at this year’s Met Gala at the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute in New York.

Adhering to this year’s theme, ‘The Garden of Time’ inspired by J.G. Ballard’s 1962 short story and aligning with the exhibit theme ‘Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion,’ Doja opted for a bold, bath-time inspired look.

Stepping onto the red carpet, Doja appeared in what seemed to be a towel ensemble, fresh out of the shower, complete with a head towel and makeup artistically streamed down her face. Oh, and not forgetting the platform heels!

Her second outfit change revealed a soaked, oversized T-shirt look with her blonde hair on full display, ditching the head towel.

It didn’t take long for the internet to explode with opinions.

Comments ranged from critical to downright disapproving on X, with one user saying: “If this is her only outfit then don’t invite Doja Cat next year. Take note Anna Wintour. Didn’t you ban her from Met Gala last year?”

While some were not pleased, saying, “She’s never getting invited again I fear,” others called for an outright ban: “Doja Cat should be banned from the #metgala if this is the final look…”

Yet, not everyone was in the naysayer camp. Some fans praised her avant-garde approach to fashion.

One admirer noted: “She has a mind like Gaga when it comes to fashion and performative art pieces fr. Like this is far from being the most opulent outfit there, but she just constantly thinks outside the box. I always respect her artistic vision and talent.”

In a chat with Entertainment Tonight, Doja explained her choice, focusing on the elemental and timeless nature of cotton and a white T-shirt.

“So, I know that people are going to do flowers but my flower of choice is the most used flower which is cotton,” she shared.

“And so I wanted to do a white T-shirt, also because a white t-shirt is timeless and it felt very poetic to choose this,” Doja added, noting her preference to stand out rather than blend in.

And yes, she was actually drenched! Doja revealed her team used hair gel to achieve the wet effect all over her body, emphasizing, “I’m performing. It’s a show tonight.”

There you have it, folks—whether you loved it or loathed it, Doja Cat’s Met Gala look was undeniably a conversation starter!
