Taylor Swift enthusiasts are channeling their detective skills to analyze elements of her new album cover.
Recently, Swift sent waves across the internet with the announcement of her 12th studio album, The Life of A Showgirl.
This revelation occurred during Swift’s guest spot on the New Heights podcast, co-hosted by her NFL star boyfriend Travis Kelce and his brother Jason, a former Philadelphia Eagles player.
Presenting a copy of the album, the singer shared: “This is my new album, The Life Of A Showgirl. It’s something I was working on while I was in Europe on the Eras tour.”
Swift hinted that the new album is ‘a lot more upbeat’ compared to 2024’s The Tortured Poets Department.
During the podcast, Swift also unveiled the artwork for her upcoming album, featuring her in a sparkling, showgirl-like costume, partially submerged in water.
The album’s title, set to release on October 3, is displayed around her in an orange, glittery font.
Fans are speculating that the album title and its orange typography may be a reference to Kanye West, with whom she has had a longstanding feud.
Back in 2016, West released his album The Life of Pablo, known for tracks like ‘Ultralight Beam’, ’30 Hours’, and ‘Real Friends’.
Perhaps the most notable song from the album is ‘Famous’, recognized for its controversial music video and lyrics that reference Swift.
The contentious lyric states: “I feel like me and Taylor might still have sex. Why? Because I made that b*tch famous,” alluding to the rapper’s interruption of Swift’s MTV Music Video Award win in 2009.
West claimed Swift had consented to the lyrics, but the ‘Cardigan’ artist has consistently denied this.
Swift’s fans now believe The Life Of A Showgirl could be echoing the title of West’s 2016 album.
Some speculate that the orange font on Swift’s cover could also be a nod to The Life of Pablo, which featured a bright orange background.
Highlighting the resemblances, especially the album titles, a Twitter user wrote: “Taylor naming her album ‘The Life Of A Showgirl’ to appear before Kanye’s ‘The Life Of Pablo’ in search results… her mind.”
Another user commented: “Taylor Swift doesn’t do anything by accident. It’s likely not coincidental her album appears in searches before Kanye’s Life of Pablo.”
“Not Taylor releasing an orange aesthetic album titled the life of a showgirl when Kanye has an orange aesthetic album titled The Life of Pablo,” observed a third user.
Someone else suggested: “You can’t convince me that Taylor Swift’s new album isn’t influenced by Ye. Same color scheme and similar title format as The Life of Pablo.”
Is it just a coincidence?
Swift’s representatives have been contacted for comment.
