Authorities have identified some of the items found during a search connected to Travis Decker.
Decker is suspected of killing his three young daughters, whose remains were located in early July.
On May 30, Decker picked up his daughters from his ex-wife’s residence as scheduled but did not return them that day.
Sadly, on July 2, the bodies of the children, aged five, eight, and nine, were discovered at the Rock Island Campground in Leavenworth.
Decker faces charges for the murder of his daughters but is still on the run.
An initial investigation at the campsite was conducted around the time the Decker children were found, and recently, the FBI carried out another extensive 48-hour search.
The investigation spanned nearly 250 acres, involving the efforts of more than 100 participants.
“A search of this magnitude and detail has not previously taken place in this area,” the FBI stated in a release dated August 29.
The statement further noted: “We not only accomplished our goal of covering the entire area intended for this operation, but we also searched beyond the primary search perimeter. The electronic mapping of this search effort is being provided to the Chelan County Sheriff’s Office and our federal partners.”
‘Several items’ were discovered at the location that may be pertinent to the investigation.
Mike Herrington, the special agent in charge of the FBI Seattle field office, mentioned that the items are under examination and that obtaining results might ‘take some time’.
It has been disclosed that some of the items recovered included bones.
Sheriff Mike Morrison confirmed to The Wenatchee World: “The bones were found during the grid search by one of the 100 personnel. It was inconclusive at the time if they were animal or human, so it was sent off to Central Washington University in their anthropology department to do a confirmation.”
Although nearly two months have elapsed since the discovery of the girls’ bodies, Morrison emphasized that they ‘have not lost sight of the importance of this case’.
“We are trying our best to make sure that this does not just disappear and fade away into memory,” he stated.
Morrison anticipates ‘another effort coming here in September’ following some findings from the recent two-day search.
