FDA Recalls Cheese Products After 1 Death and 8 Hospitalizations: Full List

Clover Hill Dairy has expanded its recall to include all of its cheese products after a multistate Listeria outbreak left 12 people sick, 10 hospitalized and one person dead.

The FDA says the recall now covers every Clover Hill Dairy brand cheese currently on the market. The outbreak has been linked to products sold directly from the company’s retail market, at farmers markets, and through third-party distributors in North Carolina, New York, Virginia, Maryland, New Jersey and Washington, D.C.

According to the CDC, sick people’s samples were collected over a long period, from March 6, 2023, through June 2, 2026, suggesting the contamination may have been present for years before it was detected.

Clover Hill Dairy initially recalled requesón/soft ricotta cheese on June 3, 2026, before expanding the recall on June 18 to cover all of its cheese products after investigators found Listeria monocytogenes in product samples and in an environmental sample. The Maryland Department of Health has also suspended the company’s operating license while it carries out a follow-up evaluation.

In a statement, the FDA warned:

Listeria monocytogenes is an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, or others with weakened immune systems.
