A Tennessee mother paralyzed at a Kentucky music festival has forgiven the stranger who fell from a tree and crushed her spine.
Jamie Ulshoffer, a Tennessee native, suffered a severed spinal cord when a man plummeted from a tree and landed on her during the Louder Than Life Festival in Louisville last Friday, according to her husband Conor. The incident occurred during a performance by the band Knocked Loose at the Kentucky Fair & Exposition Center.
Conor Ulshoffer recounted the moment to WHAS11. “I turn around and see her on her back … Then everyone said some dude fell out of a tree,” he said.
Jamie has no memory of the impact itself. Authorities rushed to the scene and transported her to the University of Louisville Hospital, where she remains in recovery. Her prognosis remains uncertain, and doctors have not determined whether she will walk again.
From her hospital bed, Jamie described her condition to the outlet. “I can’t feel my feet. Can’t do anything that I used to,” she said.
The physical limitations have taken an emotional toll as she thinks of her children back home. “I’m not going to be able to play with the kids,” Jamie said.
Despite the life-altering consequences, Jamie directed remarkable words toward the man responsible. “He shouldn’t have been up there. Definitely after it just rained, too. Stupid decision. You did this, but I’ll forgive,” she said.
The festival’s production team declined to comment when reached by WHAS11, citing patient privacy. It remains unclear whether authorities have filed any criminal charges against the man who fell.
A fundraiser has been established to support Jamie as she remains stranded in Kentucky, unable to return home to Tennessee while facing mounting medical expenses and an uncertain recovery timeline.
The Louder Than Life Festival, held annually in Louisville, draws tens of thousands of rock and metal fans to the Kentucky Fair & Exposition Center for a multi-day lineup of performances.
