Keira Knightley is set to appear in an exciting new drama soon to be available on Netflix. The film’s director has revealed that there were significant challenges during production.
Known for her memorable role in the Pirates of the Caribbean series, Knightley has participated in numerous acclaimed films throughout her career. Two decades after the franchise, the British actress expresses satisfaction with her recent work.
Her upcoming project is the Netflix movie The Woman in Cabin 10, adapted from Ruth Ware’s bestselling 2016 novel.
The plot follows Knightley as Laura ‘Lo’ Blacklock, a journalist assigned to cover the inaugural voyage of a opulent travel yacht in the Norwegian fjords. However, things are not as they appear.
Knightley’s character is sure she witnesses someone being thrown overboard, yet the others onboard insist all passengers and crew are present. She risks everything to uncover the truth.
Although Knightley is thrilled about this film, scheduled for Netflix release on October 10, director Simon Stone disclosed that filming posed several difficulties.
The cast and crew shot the movie on a yacht navigating through the English Channel, which presented unique obstacles.
He explained: “Usually on film sets there are ways to escape.”
“You can say, ‘I’m just going to my trailer for a second,’ or someone can drive to Costa Coffee for you.”
“But out in the middle of the English Channel, leaving at seven in the morning and coming back at eight in the evening, you’re stuck on the boat. There’s literally nowhere to go. The only way to escape would be to jump overboard.”
“It was almost my worst nightmare at first, not having control over my method of escape. But I had to surrender. It actually teaches you to surrender.”
The hope for viewers is that this sense of confinement and tension is palpable in the final film.
In a conversation with PA about the forthcoming film, Knightley mentioned that she is relishing her current ‘thriller era.’
She commented: “I’m in the era of doing the kind of stuff I dreamed about as a teenager but never had the chance to try back then.”
“Now I’m finally getting to do it all, and my inner teenager is just like, ‘Cool.’”
The film is anticipated to premiere on Netflix on October 10.
