The highly anticipated trailer for The Last of Us season two has been released, and fans are ecstatic.
The Last of Us, based on the immensely popular video game by Naughty Dog, is a post-apocalyptic series where a fungal-based virus, Cordyceps, devastates society, turning those infected into zombie-like creatures.
In its first season, The Last of Us centers on two strangers, Joel (Pedro Pascal) and Ellie (Bella Ramsey), who form a father-daughter bond while navigating perilous landscapes and working towards a world-saving mission.

The inaugural season concludes with the revelation that Ellie might be key to curing Cordyceps, as she is infected yet immune to its effects.
Joel brings Ellie to an outpost where scientists plan to study her immunity, but he discovers that their procedure will ultimately kill her.
Confronted with the moral choice of sacrificing Ellie to potentially save millions or preserving her life, Joel chooses the latter. He goes on a killing spree at the outpost, rescuing Ellie and returning with her to their safe haven in Jackson.
Now that we’re all caught up, check out the full trailer for The Last of Us season two. The story picks up five years after season one’s events.
After years of relative peace, season two appears to explore the consequences of Joel’s decision, introducing new characters — some allies, some adversaries — into Joel and Ellie’s lives.
Fans of the video game have identified scenes in the trailer that they believe TV-only audiences won’t anticipate.
“This scene is going to ruin lives. [If you know, you know],” one fan tweeted, alongside a screenshot of Ellie crying from the trailer.
“As a hardcore fan of [The Last of Us 2], I am very nervous on how they’ll adapt the story,” another fan commented. “But I have to admit, that was a pretty cool trailer.”
There is also concern about a new character, Abby (Kaitlyn Dever), being introduced in season two.
“She ’bout to get a lot of hate. If you know, you know,” one fan remarked, responding to an image of Abby from the trailer.
Anyone familiar with the games will understand these concerns. Nonetheless, HBO seems poised to deliver what could be its most ambitious season of The Last of Us yet.
The Last of Us season 2 premieres in 2025.
