Flight attendant discloses what to request for an upgrade with ‘99% success rate’

Getting an upgrade to first class is a fantasy many of us don’t get to experience… but one flight attendant suggests she has a foolproof method to make it happen.

The internet is rife with advice, tips, and tricks—though many of them don’t actually deliver. However, this one could be worth trying since it’s coming from someone who claims to be a flight attendant.

TikToker @cierra_mistt claims there is a strategy that boasts a ’99 percent’ success rate. While I might take that with a grain of salt, it still has me eager to try it the next time I fly.

In a video posted on her page in 2023, Mistt outlined two methods her followers can try themselves.

She stated: “One thing the airlines don’t want you to know is that for the majority of flights, we have to move people for weight and balance purposes.

“When we move people all the way up to the front it’s not just because we are being nice, but normally if our flight is full we have to move people.

“If that’s the case, the flight attendants are going to choose the people in the very last row to go up front, because then they can sit down there after doing their service.”

So, while sitting at the back might sound unappealing, it could lead to an upgrade. It’s definitely worth considering if you have the option to select your seat in advance.

Regarding the second method, Cierra claims it also has a ’99 per cent success rate’—again, take it with a pinch of salt.

First, she suggests listening for announcements to see if your flight is fully booked. If it is, the gate attendant will often seek volunteers to switch flights.

Typically, there will be offers of freebies or discounts, but Mistt advises against accepting these.

Instead, she suggests: “First go to the gate agent, second give them a price and say that you want that in cash.

“When the gate agent is rebooking you for that next flight, make sure that they put you in first class to compensate for the time that you’re losing.”

Some people have vouched for her advice, claiming they were upgraded to business class. However, others said it didn’t work for them, and they had to deal with the inconvenience of others passing by to reach the bathroom.

Will you give it a try?
