Mike Love, 85, is facing serious health challenges that left him performing from a chair at a Beach Boys concert in Cincinnati on Saturday.
The legendary frontman was helped onto the PNC Pavilion stage at Riverbend Music Center by longtime band associate John Stamos, 61, who addressed the crowd before bringing Love out. “He has been going through some health issues and he’s had to cancel some shows, but he would not miss tonight, I’m telling you,” Stamos told fans, per a fan video. “We sort of said, ‘Maybe you stay home for this,’ and he was like, ‘No, I’m going to Cincinnati.'”

Once on stage, the “Full House” alum helped Love into a chair where he remained throughout the performance. Despite the physical limitations, Love still sang some of the band’s biggest hits as the crowd cheered him on.

Fan reaction to footage of the seated performance spread quickly online. “It breaks my heart to see Mike so sick. I’m glad he’s able to do what he loves most at least, it seems like they’re trying to lift his spirits which is sweet. Sending Mike all the love and well wishes! I hope he gets better soon!” one supporter wrote in comments. A second added, “He’s earned the right to go on stage, no matter what any of us think. Mike, wish you the best!” A third commented, “Made me sad and happy at the same time.”

Stamos delivered a sobering health update on Sunday via Instagram. “My beloved friend, father figure, musical hero and mentor, Mike Love, is facing serious health challenges,” the actor wrote. “We hope he’ll be doing what he loves for years to come, but we don’t know what the future holds. We have tonight.”

Stamos, who has performed with the Beach Boys in various capacities since the 1980s, called Love a “fighter” and revealed doctors had advised him to “focus on his health,” He added, “The Mike Love we see tonight may not be exactly the Mike we’ve always known. But he’s still every bit the Mike we love.”

The Cincinnati show came after the Beach Boys abruptly canceled several concerts last month, scrapping dates just one day before a scheduled return from a two-month break. The cancellations had already signaled trouble before Saturday’s concerning onstage appearance made the situation visible to fans.

Love now stands as the only original member still touring with the band he helped form. Brian Wilson, the group’s co-founder and creative force, died of respiratory arrest in June 2025 at age 82. Original drummer Dennis Wilson died from drowning in 1983, while original guitarist Carl Wilson died in 1998 after battling lung cancer.

The surviving original member’s determination to reach Cincinnati despite medical advice underscores his commitment to the stage even as his condition deteriorates.

The Beach Boys have additional tour dates scheduled as Love continues to balance his health against his lifelong performing career.
