Former adult star Adriana Chechik ‘cries’ telling ‘morbid joke’ on how she tried to get out of porn industry

Adriana Chechik left a crowd laughing after play-acting as though she’d been trapped in the adult industry, despite the fact she’s long been candid about enjoying the work.

The 32-year-old stepped away from adult entertainment in late 2022 following nearly a decade in the business, but she recently jokingly leaned into a completely different narrative. Putting on an exaggerated, mock-tearful routine, she pretended she’d been fighting to get out—only to immediately undercut it with a grin and the real punchline.

“I tried. I tried so hard. I tried so hard to get out,” she wailed, tears streaming, before delivering the punchline with a smirk: “And my pimp, he just like… You know, I love my job.”

Noticing how the room responded, she quickly checked in with the audience and asked: “Was that too morbid of a joke? Was that a little too morbid for you guys?”

The bit lands largely because Chechik has never been shy about the reality of her experience—she hasn’t tried to rewrite the past or claim she hated her time in adult entertainment.

Since retiring, she’s carved out a major presence as a Twitch streamer and online creator, drawing more than 860,000 followers on Twitch and 4.2 million on Instagram. She’s spoken about streaming as something that gave her a fresh direction and a stronger sense of self, while still being straightforward about what her earlier career meant to her.

Between 2013 and 2022, Chechik became one of the best-known performers in the industry, picking up multiple awards during that run. Her choice to retire was tied to wanting people to see more dimensions of who she is, and her move into streaming provided the opportunity to start that next phase in public.

On the Holly Randall Unfiltered Podcast, she described how important Twitch became for her personally.

“Twitch has been the best blessing for me,” she said. “I wasn’t even making money from it at first, but I was just somewhere where people were valuing me for me.”

She also shared that, while working in porn, she often felt disconnected from the wider world and what she wanted intellectually.

“I was craving intellectuality and learning, and I just wasn’t getting it. I was so enwrapped in porn that I didn’t have any notion of the outside world.”

Even with her success in streaming, the transition hasn’t been entirely smooth. In October 2022, she broke her back in two places after jumping into a shallow foam pit at TwitchCon, leading to major surgery and a lengthy recovery process that has required continued rehabilitation.
