Fox News has cut ties with Lara Trump, daughter-in-law of former president Donald Trump, following her father-in-law’s announcement of his re-election campaign.
The network confirmed Saturday that Trump would no longer be a paid employee. She joined the network as a contributor in March 2021.
Fox News’ protocol states that it cannot employ figures running for office or with close connections to candidates. Executive chairman Rupert Murdoch has also expressed opposition to her father-in-law’s decision to run again.
“We appreciate Lara’s valuable contributions across Fox News Media programming,” a Fox News spokesperson said.
Trump had not appeared on the network since her father-in-law announced his third presidential bid in a Nov. 15 speech at his Mar-a-Lago residence. She had commonly joined programs on the network to defend her father-in-law against criticism surrounding January 6 and the FBI raid on Mar-a-Lago.
The network had previously terminated the employment of former Trump-era White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders once she announced her gubernatorial bid in Arkansas, which she recently won. Trump was hired as a contributor despite hinting at the idea of running for Senate in North Carolina.
Trump administration veterans remain on the network, including former White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany, who hosts the program “Outnumbered,” and paid contributor Kellyanne Conway.
