Freddie Mercury, the iconic British singer, is at the center of a surprising claim concerning a supposed ‘secret child’ who has spoken out about his death.
Mercury, known for his dynamic performances and unique voice, passed away in November 1991 at the age of 45, following a four-year battle with AIDS. During his time in Munich, he shared an apartment with his friend Barbara Valentin and her daughter. However, a woman named ‘B’ has come forward, claiming to be Mercury’s secret daughter.
The existence of Mercury’s alleged daughter has never been confirmed, but if true, she would currently be 48 years old. Reports suggest she resides in Europe, working in the medical field. B claims she was born from an affair Mercury had in 1976 with the wife of a close acquaintance.
This revelation surfaced in May and is reportedly an open secret among Mercury’s family and friends.
New allegations by B have come to light through a handwritten letter featured in a biography by Lesley-Ann Jones. In this letter, B makes a significant claim about Valentin, suggesting that Mercury might have lived longer if not for her influence.
B stated, “No one can deny her significance in Freddie’s life throughout the two years that their relationship lasted. Had she adopted the same attitude as Mary, and had she tried to keep Freddie’s feet on the ground rather than taking him deeper, his immune system might have resisted the virus for significantly longer.”
According to the Mail Online, B further commented, “Instead, she gave him whatever he wanted, and became his partner in debauchery, depravity and decadence.”
B also asserted she shared a ‘very close and loving relationship’ with Mercury, noting, “He adored me and was devoted to me.” She claims Mercury entrusted her with 17 personal, handwritten journals documenting the final years of his life.
Despite these revelations being known among Mercury’s close circle, Queen guitarist Brian May maintains a ‘neutral’ stance on the issue. His wife, former Eastenders actress Anita Dobson, labeled the claims as ‘fake news’.
Mary Austin, a close confidante of Mercury, expressed skepticism about the notion that Mercury concealed the existence of a daughter from his closest allies.
She remarked, “The truth is that I am simply not the guardian of such a secret, I’ve never known of any child, or of any diaries. If Freddie had indeed had a child without me knowing anything about it, that would be astonishing to me.”
B responded to Austin’s remarks, expressing that she was ‘devastated’ by the doubt cast on her story.
