Friends guest star who was ‘extremely rude’ on set finally reveals his identity

Friends is undeniably one of the most iconic sitcoms of our time, and landing a guest role was a significant achievement.

From Bruce Willis and Julia Roberts to Danny DeVito and Reese Witherspoon, the show featured a who’s who of celebrities from the nineties and early 2000s.

However, Jennifer Aniston once disclosed that not every guest actor was thrilled about their brief stint on the popular show.

In a 2021 interview with radio host Howard Stern, Aniston revealed that one particular guest star felt he was ‘above’ being on a sitcom.

“And I remember when we were doing a network run-through, the network and the producers would just laugh. And this person would be like, ‘Listen to them, just laughing at their own jokes. So stupid, not even funny,'” Aniston recalled.

“It was just like, ‘What are you doing here? Your attitude, this is not what we’re all about. This is a wonderful, warm place to be, and you’re coming into our home and just s*** on it.'”

Aniston added that the actor later apologized for his behavior, explaining that he was ‘so nervous’ at the time, but she chose not to reveal his identity.

Later on, guest star Fisher Stevens, known for playing Phoebe’s psychiatrist boyfriend in the first season, admitted he was the ‘rude’ actor.

In an appearance on PeopleTV’s Couch Surfing, Stevens confessed to his poor behavior during his time on Friends.

“At that moment in my career, I had never done a sitcom before,” he revealed. “I had never heard of Friends because it was just the beginning of the show and I didn’t watch TV at the time much.”

Stevens shared that he flew from New York to Los Angeles to film his scenes, having memorized his lines, but found upon arrival that they had been changed.

“Because that’s what sitcoms did. And I didn’t know that,” he added. “I was kind of an a*****e, I have to admit. ‘What do you mean? So I have to relearn lines that you’ve written that are worse than what you’d originally written?’ Yeah, I was a d***.”

Stevens mentioned that he hasn’t seen much of the Friends cast since his appearance, but believes they would probably describe him as a ‘New York snob.’

“I’m sorry, guys. I’m sorry I was a d*** to you all. I apologize. I was bad, I was wrong,” he concluded.
