Katherine Kelly, 25, has been charged with attempted first-degree murder after allegedly shooting her boyfriend’s companion with a pink handgun.
The Cocoa, Florida woman now faces up to 30 years in prison following the late-night confrontation in Port St. John last Friday. Kelly was also charged with aggravated battery with a weapon and shooting into a vehicle, according to inmate records.
Kelly’s suspicions about her boyfriend, Elijah Baker, had been building before the incident. She had texted Baker earlier about her belief that he was cheating on her, and in those messages she threatened to shoot someone, according to a police report.
The situation escalated when Baker took Kelly’s Volkswagen for a drive late Friday night. Kelly tracked the vehicle’s location and called an Uber to follow him, the report stated.
She found Baker parked with another woman, Angel Adenau, in the passenger seat of her car. Kelly then opened fire into the passenger side with a pink-and-black Glock handgun, striking Adenau in the shoulder, according to police. The severity of Adenau’s injuries was not disclosed.
Kelly’s explanation to investigators shifted during questioning. She initially attempted to claim she had acted in self-defense.
Her story changed under further questioning, however. Kelly then told investigators she opened fire to “make a point” about Baker’s cheating, according to the police report.
The phrase “make a point” became central to how law enforcement characterized Kelly’s motive. Rather than a spontaneous act of violence, the wording suggests a calculated intent to send a message through the shooting.
The case has drawn attention both for its dramatic circumstances and for the weapon involved. The pink-and-black Glock stood out in police descriptions of the incident, adding a distinctive detail to the allegations.
Kelly’s use of a ride-sharing service to track down Baker indicates methodical planning, according to the report. She did not drive herself but arranged transportation to the location where she found the couple.
The charges against Kelly reflect the seriousness of the allegations. Attempted first-degree murder carries the most severe penalty among the counts, with a maximum sentence of 30 years in prison if she is convicted.
The incident began with Baker borrowing Kelly’s car for what he apparently told her would be a routine late-night drive. The Volkswagen became the instrument that allowed Kelly to trace his movements to the parking spot in Port St. John.
Adenau’s presence in the passenger seat confirmed Kelly’s fears about Baker’s activities that night. Within moments, gunfire turned a suspected infidelity into a felony case with potentially decades of prison time.
Kelly is being held following the charges, with the case proceeding through the Florida court system. No court date has been publicly announced.
