Gaming Retailer that Inadvertently ‘Leaked’ GTA 6 Release Date Speaks Out

The video game retailer that was rumored to have revealed the release date for Grand Theft Auto 6 has responded after the online buzz.

It’s understandable why gamers are eager for news. GTA 5 launched back in September 2013, and with a GTA 6 trailer debuting at the end of 2023, it’s about time for some updates, isn’t it?

The first glimpse of GTA 6 offered a visually striking view of the revamped Vice City, bringing a modern flair to the city originally seen in 2002’s Grand Theft Auto: Vice City.

While the updated version of the fictional Miami was the highlight, fans also got their first look at Lucia, the series’ inaugural female lead character.

Last week, speculation about the GTA 6 release date intensified after XUruguay, a retailer, posted a September 17, 2025, launch date for the eagerly awaited game.

An alleged customer service chat shared online included a claim from PlayStation, seemingly supporting the leak’s validity.

Furthermore, since GTA 5 was released on September 17, it would be logical for Rockstar to launch the next installment exactly 12 years later.

However, according to GameRant, the retailer clarified that the release date was merely a placeholder and apologized to fans who thought it was confirmed.

Take-Two, the parent company of Rockstar, has an earnings call scheduled for Thursday (February 6), where fans hope to get some news about the upcoming GTA game.

Fans are eagerly awaiting the announcement of a definitive release date.

No matter when it launches, GTA 6 is expected to generate substantial revenue.

According to a report by the Financial Times, data from DFC Intelligence projects that GTA 6 could earn over $1 billion from pre-orders alone.

This would surpass the record set by GTA 5 the moment it becomes available in stores.

Yoshio Osaki, CEO of IDG Consulting, referred to the game as ‘one of the biggest entertainment launches in history, not just in games but for all media’.

Gaming specialist Ciaran Lee previously discussed with UNILAD the potential financial impact GTA 6 could have for Rockstar upon its release.

He stated: “GTA 5 made $800 million on its first day and $1 billion in its first three days. The launch week for Grand Theft Auto 5 was massive, and GTA 6 will be even larger. I expect it to be among the biggest launches for an entertainment title, possibly generating $1 billion to $1.5 billion in sales within 24 hours.”
